Wayyak’s team and myself’s behalf I’d like to express my appreciation
for the gracious attention you’ve given to “Translating Al Qura’an into
Arabic sign language” project, hoping that in return of your efforts,
Allah may generously reward you, your sisters and brothers.
Before
enclosing any details in regards to the project at hand please allow me
to give you an over view of the current situation; the Arab World has
about 14 million Deaf, 5 million of those reside in Egypt and only 3
achieved a bachelor’s degree.
The Arab World – located Deaf,
suffer a severe case of negligence on all levels, social, cultural,
educational, etc. and they have another commonality; that being their
utter ignorance of the very basics of Islam, a conclusion you come to
once you’ve dealt with one up close.
Wayyak Media Productions’
birth has provided the Deaf community with all that matters to them;
beginning with religion, and ending with entertainment.
Our
firm aims to bridging the existent gap between the non-hearing
community and the hearing one, through broadcasting the product on all
TV channels. An act through which a sign lingual -unity can occur
between all the Arab Deaf. Curiosity being the dominant human trait,
the general public will want to watch the Deaf-allocated programs, and
eventually, easily, learn the language, since it’s a descriptive form
of communication. As a result, communication between the Deaf and the
general public will become a daily event.
Commencing with the Holy Qura’an’s translation was being the natural thing to do for the following reasons:
Allah’s
holy book is the Muslim’s guide to, faith, mannerisms, interactions, as
well as the seerah, and only through viewing the translation can a Deaf
experience a deep sense of satisfaction, because only now is s/he able
to truly connect with Allah through his divine book.
The Project’s Introductory Title: "The Deaf, hear"
Translating the Qura’an to sign language’s doctrine: The production is processed through many, time consuming phases, I, here, list them below:
- The preparations’’ team studies the a’aya through fifteen (15) different, Ulama’aa - certified, and agreed upon tafaseer.
- The more commonly agreed upon tafseer amongst the (15) tafaseer is used to translate an a’aya.

The a’aya’s translation is simply crafted, more description-based, and
is numerically parallel to the a’aya’s words in the use of sign
lingual-words. All resulting in what seems to be instantaneous
translation on screen.
- This Tafseer must be certified by Al Azhar (Juz’a by Juz’a).

The Interpreter is required to read the a’aya’s tafseer, whilst a
scientific committee supervises, to ensure the interpreter’s accurate
understanding.
- The interpreter translates the tafseer into
sign language in the presence of a Deaf consultant, to ensure the
intended meaning’s accurate deliverance to the Deaf watcher.
Note:
The Deaf consultant working on this project is a member of the team who
put together the Unified Arabic Sign Language Dictionary, issued by the
“League of Arab States”.- The translation attempts are taped for later reference, to further refine the signs before the actual taping process.

Once the interpreter’s through translating a full page, he signs the
entire page several times and perhaps several days, to simply ensure an
error-free performance on tape.
- The final product (video) is
screened by several Deaf groups, again to ensure that the intended
meaning was safely and accurately delivered to the intended audience.
In case of any error, the video is re-taped.
- Last stage is the interpretation’s readiness for the final taping, and producing a friendly-user’s product.

Project’s Time Frame:After
experimenting for a while, Wayyak Media Productions came to realize
that the average period of time needed to produce of a single Juz’a,
takes two months, and a year (1) for 5 Ajza’a.
In case of the
existence of more teams, ten to fifteen Ajza’a could be produced a
year. But of course it all depends on the financial backing.
A Non-Profit Project:Meaning
that with the existence of a sponsor/s the product is to be freely
provided to the Deaf on wayyak’s website as well as the other Deaf
web-pages. The product is NOT TO BE SOLD to the in any case.
Project’s Sponsorship: The Quran (in Arabic) has approx. 600 pages, split into 30 Juz'a, each Juz'a has 20 pages.
After
a conclusive study –in the light of our experience- producing a single
Juz’a was estimated by $50,000 US Dollars (or £31480)... The whole
Quran in Arabic Sign Langaue alone will cost around £950 000 (just
under £1 million)
There are various schemes for sponsoring this work. The sponsorship schemes are listed below:
1. The Platinum Sponsor: A single sponsor, for 1 Juz’a. (Life-long sponsorship) estimated to £30 0002. The Golden Sponsor: Two sponsors for a 1 single Juz’a. (Life-long sponsorship) estimated to £15 0003. The Silver Sponsor: Five sponsors for a 1 single Juz’a.(Life-long sponsorship) estimated to £7 5004. The Participant Sponsor: Ten sponsors for a 1 single Juz’a.(Life-long sponsorship) estimated to £3000At the introduction of each Juz’a the sponsor’s name and title are included for life, its omission is prohibited.
About
The Other Product: For each product, a productions team is dedicated to
preparing and translating the product. If we wished to produce a volume
of tafseer al-hadith, which includes all the Deaf need-to-know details,
a team must be allocated for that purpose. And so applies to Al Fiqh,
and any other products of a similar importance.
